About: Who is Timo Schöber?

"In reality, however, no ego, not even the most naive, is a unit, but a highly diverse world, a small starry sky, a chaos of forms, levels and states, of legacies and possibilities."

Hermann Hesse, German-Swiss writer

I'm not a big fan of lyrics you write about yourself. But with such a website or author portraits, there is an understandable expectation that content about the person will be available. Therefore, I would like to offer a few insights below.

My most important quality and core of my being is my firm belief in God. At the same time, my family is the foundation of my being. These two pillars are what is most important and valuable to me. Above all, my faith is a haven of peace on the one hand, but also a constant struggle between God and my spiritual self against my ego and worldly goals on the other. Faith here also means working on the foundation of faith or the derivation resulting from it.

My home is the north of Germany, specifically the fjord city of Flensburg. Ten horses wouldn't get me away here either. I love the maritime and family-friendly lifestyle, the "you" culture, the Scandinavian attitude to life and the cosmopolitanism of my hometown. I also like the people of the region, who pack a few words for ruthless honesty.

Professionally, I am at home in different areas. One of my passions is writing, especially factual texts and scientific work. I'm also involved in human resources, which is my "classic" career path. I like working with and for people. Otherwise - and this website shows that - e-sports are also a part of my life, both professionally and as a volunteer. I would see gaming as part of my life since 1989/1990, e-sports from around 1998. PR and politics are also part of my professional and social work. I particularly enjoy working as a lecturer and scientist at universities. Research is a hobby of mine.

Other hobbies of mine are tennis, handball and tabletops. In tennis I became club champion in my youth, while in handball I was active for the youth team of SG Flensburg-Handewitt, with my 1.89 meters and mostly around 95 kilograms more in the goal or in the circle. With tabletops, on the other hand, I had a strong focus on the systems from the manufacturer Gamesworkshop for a long time, but since about 2016 I have also been playing systems from many other manufacturers. With tabletops I was able to achieve first place in German and European rankings in different systems.

Otherwise I like to hike a lot, at least 10 kilometers a day, maybe more. I like to look for routes on the coasts of northern Germany. When it comes to eating, I'm more of a North German person. My favorite dish is Labskaus.

Matthew 6:19-21 & Psalm 144:4

Why this section?

In conversations about, for example, career, money, titles, life decisions and worldly things, I sometimes seem "out of time". The background is that material status, titles, money and other earthly things have never really meant anything to me. More important to me, for example in professional activities or fundamentals: meaningfulness, joy, moral integrity and values. That's why I don't drive a status symbol car, live in a huge house or fly on a plane three times a year on vacation.

It's less about "can" and more about "wanting". This may often meet with incomprehension in a performance and consumer society, but for me personally "meaning" and "sharing" are much more important than material things. I wouldn't let academic and professional titles or the like "hang out". The "greed" of the present has always been repugnant to me.

This page was created to explain publicly and clearly the "why" behind my beliefs. Two scriptures in particular reflect my attitude.

Matthew 6:19-21

"You shall not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust devour them, and where thieves break in and steal. But lay up treasures for yourselves in heaven, where neither moth nor rust devour them, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is , there is your heart too."

For me, this world is far less important than the "after". That's not as crazy as it might sound - and at the same time it is associated with a high degree of serenity.

Psalm 144:4

"But man is like nothing; his time passes like a shadow."

The awareness of the finiteness of all being is a deep philosophical and theological conviction of mine. I believe that people of the present often take themselves far too seriously and importantly, forgetting that we are all just a blink of an eye in the "now".

"Whether you only do the job to earn money or whether you enjoy the work because you find it meaningful, decides whether you are a slave or a king."

Max Lüscher, Swiss psychologist

I question and constantly check my actions and my thinking for compatibility with my beliefs. The same applies to people, groups and organizations with whom I walk a common path. If I identify significant discrepancies here, I withdraw or address it beforehand and give new "opportunities". Ultimately, however, at some point the paths separate in one way or another.
